Message from Superintendent

                                          March  2017

KariYeater.jpgDear Community Members,

North Monterey County Unified has been making efforts to improve school climate by decreasing discipline, increasing attendance, and improving how students, parents, teachers and staff feel about their school culture.   The District is focused on preparing and support teachers and administrators in a shift in how instruction to meet the new curriculum standards by focusing on student engagement strategies to include the integration of the 4Cs (collaborating, communicating, critical thinking, and creativity).

Mathematical practice standards, literacy across curriculum, the new integrated science model, in addition to the integration of the arts into the curriculum has revitalized our schools and students are highly engaged in their own learning.  Preparing students to be college and career ready upon graduation with a plan for one-year post-high school is the goal of NMCUSD.  There is a focus to ensure students complete A-G courses with at least a 2.5 GPA and/or complete a Career Technical Education pathway to ensure they have a plan and not just graduate.

North Monterey County High School and North Monterey County Middle School are currently in sheltering in place. There has been a person that has called several schools in Monterey County with a similar message related to a possible bomb threat.  We are working closely with the Sheriff's Department who are on the school campuses and we are taking every precautionary measure to keep your children safe.  The schools are in the process of being cleared and it may take some time, and as extra precaution and part of the protocol, emergency vehicles will be in front of the school site.  In the meantime, due to safety children will not be released to their guardian. Your school will keep you updated once they are all cleared by the Sheriff.
